5 August - Llançà to Cadaqués

Our first day walking the Camí de Ronda started out fairly easily and ended with a challenge.

We left our hotel and walked through Llançà toward El Port de la Selva. The views were awesome, and we had a lot of energy. The route was clearly marked. We passed some very nice properties.

As we got closer to Port de la Selva, we started to experience some of the variety of elevation changes and pathways that would become part of our daily routine.

Things were about to change! There was a small mountain to cross before our day was done. We exchanged the beauty of the Med for the monotony of a slog across a few hours of dry and boring terrain.

At the end of our day, we treated ourselves to a large water and some beer.

Our original plan had been to spend the night in Cadaqués. I waited too long to make hotel reservations, so we took a (30€) taxi to Roses and stayed at Hotel Prestige Victoria. It was a bit of culture shock, as we had spent a full afternoon walking across a barren landscape only to find ourselves in a beach town, but we survived. The hotel had a factory-like dinner buffet and a standard breakfast. I would do a better job of planning ahead the next time.

Here is our route for the day - 23.3km in 4:53hr

Elevation change - easy to see the two distinct phases of today's walk.
