31 July - Allie in Barcelona

After enjoying four nights in a really great hotel, it was time to transfer to a VRBO apartment. Allie was arriving in Barcelona!

We had done quite a bit of online searching to find just the right place to stay with Allie. We wanted something with room for everyone that was close to a Metro station and not too far from the Plaça de Catalunya. We were very fortunate to find that "just right" place at Passeig de Gràcia, 15.

As you can see, our VRBO was just a few blocks from our hotel, H10 Casa Mimosa. When it was time to move, we just walked there.

We found this two bedroom, two bathroom apartment through VRBO - also called HomeAway. Click here to see the listing on the HomeAway site. Here are some photos from that site.

Allie flew to Barcelona though JFK. Her flight arrived at about 10am, and there was no taxi strike that day. We all met at our VRBO soon after that and were able to get an early entry and meet with the property manager, Marcel. He's a German who manages several properties nearby. He is very organized, very thorough, and a great host.

Our apartment looked onto the Passeig de Gràcia ...

We had an interesting next door neighbor ...

... and a very convenient Metro stop right outside the front door of our building.

We were soon settled in and ready to help Allie discover Barcelona.

Allie was hungry, so our first stop was Ciudad Condal for tapas. We had some of our usual tapas and added a few more including patatas bravas.

Then we took Allie to see La Boqueria ...

and the Bari Gòtic ...

After quite a bit of walking and shopping, it was time to eat again! This time, we found a sidewalk cafe next to the cathedral and again indulged in a variety of tapas.

We were all tired, so we went back to our apartment to get some rest ... AFTER first doing some shopping right up to closing time.
