A good way to get an overview of a city is to take a "hop-on, hop-off" excursion. Being tired from our overnight travel, that's what we decided to do. Barcelona has two main touristic bus services, and both had stops just a block from our hotel. We chose the
Barcelona BusTurístic with a good deal on two day passes and with three routes covering a large part of the city. A larger map is
here.
We took the red line tour to the Port Olympic and had some tapas for lunch. Then we took the green line and finished by taking the red line back to our hotel.
We sat in the sun on the double-decker bus ...
... and enjoyed some interesting views ...
... and architecture.
Here's a view of the
Plaça Catalunya - the heart of Barcelona and Catalunya. The
sculpture is a
monument to the first president of the
Generalitat de Catalunya, and it is often a rallying point for demonstrations and celebrations. The unfinished staircase symbolizes the ongoing history of Catalunya (more on that later).
When we got back to the hotel, our room was ready. Nice view!
